Suspect Sought In Bustleton Home Burglary

Police are searching for a burglary suspect whom they believe may be connected to more than one incident in Northeast Philadelphia.

According to investigators, the suspect was captured on a homeowner's surveillance camera on Nester Street in Bustleton on January 29.

Police say the suspect stole approximately $200 in cash and $1,500 in jewelry. There were several reports of attempted burglaries in the 1900 block of Nester Street the same day.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20's, with a protruding beard, wearing a white or light gray sweatshirt and carrying a multicolored child's backpack.

If you have information regarding the identity of the male, you are urged to contact Northeast Detective Division at 215-686-3153 or dial 911.

People posing as Philadelphia Water Department employees, including wearing of an identification badge and uniform, have gained access to several residences throughout the District. These imposters generally operate in pairs. One will lure the homeowner down to the basement where the water meter is while the second will search the home for valuables. All of the victims in these crimes have been over 80 years of age. Should someone claiming to be a Water Department employee show up at your door, make sure you see an official Department vehicle parked outside. If you have any doubts as to the authenticity of these persons, dial 9-1-1 immediately.

In one incident on 5/19/09 there were four perpetrators. They were driving a Hunter Green Chevrolet, possibly a Sport Utility Vehicle.

There have been reports of males posing as surveyors carrying clipboards casing residential areas. If you see someone around your home who you believe does not belong, dial 9-1-1.

DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO IS KNOCKING. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE WHO YOU FEEL APPEARS SUSPICIOUS DIAL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY. TRUST YOUR INSTINCT AND BE SAFE!

Thefts from vehicles continue to be a problem throughout the District. Follow our crime prevention tips to minimize your risk of victimization. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police promptly by dialing 9-1-1.
