The 7th Police District Advisory Council is a Police-Community Partnership. Our goals are to identify community problems, analyze their causes, develop methods for resolving these problems and implementing programs designed to reduce these problems. The objective of our Police-Community partnership is to enhance the quality of life, to raise the level of public safety and to reduce fear and lower the incidence of crime in our community.
The P.D.A.C. is a nonprofit community-based organization run by volunteers. Not even our Board of Directors is paid.
The 7th P.D.A.C believes that education lies at the heart of solving problems within the community. Therefore, we put a great deal of emphasis on educational programs within our community. We conduct programs in local schools, such as essay contests on selected topics. Contest winners are often taken on educational trips or provided other incentives. We also host Community Day events where we bring together approximately 75 government and private service oriented organizations to educate the public and assist them with a variety of needs.
We also serve as the local sponsor for the National Fire Prevention Association's Risk Watch program for preschool and kindergarten children. Risk Watch is a comprehensive injury prevention curriculum that has been field tested in communities throughout the United States and Canada. The curriculum addresses eight risk areas that injure or kill the greatest number of children every year. Very simply, the goal of the program is to change behavior, to help children make good choices when presented with risky situations.
